Comparison to Frederick Douglass: John Quincy Adams

There are many similarities and differences between John Q. Adams and Frederick Douglass. John Q. Adams life is similar to that of the late Frederick Douglass because of the fact that they were both born in the 1800’s, they were both males, they were both enslaved as children, they both wrote an autobiography, they both escaped slavery, they both had an urge to learn how to read and write and they both were able to see freedom. The differences between Frederick Douglass and John Q. Adams is that even though they were both born in the same era when John Q. Adams was born in 1845 Douglass was already a free man and writing his biography. Douglass knew what life was like as a slave and he knew what life was like living as a free man. Another difference between the two is that after freedom Douglass became an abolitionist and was involved in a lot more anti-slavery groups than Adams was. How the two escaped to freedom is another difference. Adams escaped with his family with the help of General Geary, Douglass however escaped by boarding a train to Maryland.
