Summary of Narrative: Selim Aga
Incidents Connected with the Life of Selim Aga, a
Native of Central Africa was written in 1846 by Selim Aga. Selim’s
autobiography starts out with him describing to his readers a little bit about
his native country which is a place called Tegla located in Africa. He gives
the reader more insight about Tegla’s climate, geography, customs and the
people. He then goes on to talk about how he was kidnapped by slave traders at
8 years old and taken across the desert to Egypt. The text dives further into
his time as a slave while in Egypt and then how he was sold to the British
consul shortly after. While working for the former Consuls family, Aga was
treated well and taught how to read and write.
